Champagne makers
from the
Marne Valley
The Marne Valley: from East to West, the Marne river cuts through the great plateau formed during the Tertiary epoch, which makes up Champagne. This long groove in the plateau is bordered with occasionally steep slopes which are wooded on top. For several centuries, the vines have found an incomparable terroir here, particularly well adapted to producing sparkling wines. The Champagne terroir has no equal elsewhere in the world.
The Marne Valley has always been the perfect cradle for the Pinot Meunier, one of the three traditional Champagne grape varieties. This grape, having a black skin, but white juice, gives well rounded supple wines of excellent bouquet. Its fruity scents lead to champagnes which are agreeable and pleasing champagnes.
The white grape variety, Chardonnay, complements it with delicate scents and brings finesse and elegance. The Pinot Noir balances the other two, bringing body and power to the blends, in order to create champagnes which are complete, balanced and rich.
